I have an AVIC Z1 with an upgraded Z3 hard drive installed. I bought this unit used off of Ebay and I installed it this past August or September. As soon as I got the unit installed I checked everything out and it all seemed to work with the exception of the DVD/CD drive. I placed a commercial DVD (not a burnt DVD) in the unit and it immediately read "unreadable disc". I tried to eject the disk and it made noises like it was going to eject the disk but never has. I recently dropped the unit off at a local electronics shop but they couldn't figure out the problem. I'm looking for any suggestions before I send this directly to Pioneer. Please help....I have browsed through all the postings on this site and haven't found any posts that helped me out.

I have a new hard drive with a new image that I would like to install in my AVIC. Once I have this hard drive installed how do I test the unit without having to put it in the vehicle yet? I figured I could hook it up to a battery charger to allow the unit to turn on and see if the hard drive boots up and the dvd player and other things work properly. Does that sound right? If so, which wires do I connect to the charger? If not....please advise!!
