The European version uses TeleAtlas 2005.1 maps which people want to update to the TA 2006 version. The US version uses Navteq maps. According to the manual you can restore/update maps if damaged. Soooo question is if you can overwrite the Navteq maps with the TA maps and make the US AVIC-S1 work in Europe. And more importantly can you then subsequently over write the TeleAtlas maps with the OEM CDs supplied with the US version to restore the full US functionality again.

Hmmm I don't know? I know you can do that with the garmin products, but I would call pioneer at (800) 421-1404 and see what they say.
