Passwords and such AVIC D3

Hi.

I am new to this forum and have done some research about the question I am about to ask. I recently purchased an AVIC D3 from a Circuit City that was going out of business. I purchased the unit "as is" and the store is now closed.

I took the stereo to Best Buy to have it installed and it turns out it has a password on it (in case of theft). I do not know the password. I have called Pioneer and they would like me to send it out to them with my receipt to have it reset (which I don't mind doing).

For all the skeptics out there, I did join the site primarily to post this message and ask this question. The device is not stolen and I have the receipt, and will send it out to Pioneer if there is no other answer, but my question is if there is a way to override the password or change it before I ship the device out and spend money on shipping?

Any answers would be appreciated, even if the answer is that there is no way to do it, which seems to be the answer so far in talking to the people at Best Buy and other Circuit City's.

Nope, you have to send it in.
