Any suggestions to a first time user on equalizer settings?

My home system is run flat.

Audiophile system, the music is played as it was recorded, less a few db settings on the amp.

Any suggestions how to get as close to the original recorded sound with the equalizer settings?

It depends on a variety of factors. Namely, the timbre of your speakers.

Are you able to disable the equalizer completely?

I don't think so.

Settings area as good as the source so this is not an easy setup.

"Flat" is as close as it gets to disabled.
