Finally found an installer for Z1, BUT he tells me by-pass won't work on models made after July 2006. I mentioned grounding the wires as stated on your web site and he still said no go. He further stated by pass would work ok up to 6k rpm's and then would cut out. Can you shed some light on this. I would add that he has installed by-passes on earlier models with no problem. They are also authorized Pioneer Dealers/installers.
If what he said is really true i will be very p'd off, because i can get the Z1 free from a friend who had his first 2 ripped off and doesn't want the hassel of installing a third

I would say he is blowing smoke...mine hasnt shut down on my 05 mustang and I cant see the RPMs causing the thing to shut down either unless the power would be cut off by the car at the 6k??

He doesn't know what he is talking about. The bypass on my site works on every Z1 made so far that we all know of. It's either one or the other, but ONE of those will absolutely work. As for the 6K RPM, if he thinks the rpm has anything to do with the Z1 at all, you need to find a different installer, he is NUTS. Maybe he is hooking the tach signal to the Z1's speed sensor or something, either way it shouldn't mess up the bypass just the accuracy of the Z1 if you did something so crazy.

Trust me, those methods work. If you can get a Z1, do it. These will work and you should be rather happy.

Thanks for your replies Ducatiboy and mat. Live in San francisco Bay area and installation prospects suck. May have to go to Minden Nv. near Reno to Indigo Auto Sound they have Mepc Certified Installars. By chance has anyone used them.400 mile r/t but may be worth it

Just got my Z1 installed yesterday. The installer gave me a link to your flash instructions and said it was easy. However, I can't get it to work. I have 2006 f150 Super Crew. It has the auto on lights, but I can turn the switch to manual. I tried flashing the lights on then off again during the boot up and it still doesn't work. Can you walk me throught it again to make sure I'm not missing something?

When was your Z1 made? That's important.

The instructions are here:
http://www.sminntech.com/z1flash.html

And I really don't know how to spell it out any better.

Disengage the parking brake (and make sure that sense wire is not permanently grounded). IF you get the "parking brake warning" message when you start the vehicle, then you need to reset the Z1 with the little recessed button to the right of the eject button.

Turn the vehicle on (don't bother starting the engine).
As soon as you see the "Starting up Pioneer Car Navigation..." text screen... Turn your lights on and then off (about 1 second on is perfect).
Let the Z1 finish booting.

It's all there is to it. If this doesn't work than you have a Z1 made in July or newer or your parking brake wire is grounded (or your parking brake is on) or you are not doing this right.

ducatiboy, I just purchased your bypass for a May 06 Z-1 and 06 VW Jetta. I'm gathering all the additional install parts getting ready for the install. How do I find the speed detection circuit lead off the vehicle injection computer. Do I need to connect the car speed signal input?

Found it behind the speedo cluster (white/purple stripe) for any VW Jetta owners
