Just wanted to let everyone know that this evening I will be moving the site over to a faster and more equipped server! It should keep the site from having it's random lockup issues. Basically the forum database was exceeding the amount of RAM the server had and was causing it to crash or slow to a crawl.

The new server is a 2.33Ghz dual core Intel Xeon with 2GB of RAM!

Please let me know if you find anything not working correctly!!!

Thanks,

Jason :D

Yeah, but does it run Crysis?

haha, sadly, no :(

just 2 gigs?

My quad core at home has 6X that amount of ram...and yes it does run Crysis.

just curious though, what were the old system specs?

2GB is plenty for a linux server, it just runs apache and mysql. Email is offloaded through gmail.

The old system was a 1.6 Xeon with 1GB of RAM. The forum database was constantly using it all up.

is it your colo or you use dedicated ? If it was a colo I would not hesitate to max it with ram, since the ram is today cheap. But its nice to see that the server is twice as fast and more capable then before :D

It's a dedicated through GoDaddy. Trust me, if it was a colo, it would have a 3ghz Quad Core with 8GB! lol

Man you must be pulling some sweet ad revenues to be able to afford a dedicated server.

But since it's dedicated you could definitely host all future Z series images! Woohoo! :P

I'm surprised to find the new DNS lookups for this server have already hit my network. I'm impressed!

Posted Mar 13, 2009 · 13:23 UTC#11

Too bad the new server doesn’t allow me to search for “Verify VSSâ€.

The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: verify vss.

You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wildcards.

I'm working on fixing the search.

It DOES run a thousand times faster. You should now hold a design contest or something so we can design the new forums! (The default theme is a friggin' eyesore).

Posted Mar 13, 2009 · 18:42 UTC#16

just a question, is there anyway that when you log out and log back in all post from the previous login will be marked as read?

Posted Mar 13, 2009 · 19:13 UTC#17

Theres a link at the top right of the forum that says "Mark All Forums Read".

Was the last site running phpbb2 or 3? What do you plan to do with the theme? They have the same xand theme for phpbb3. Also have many many other great themes. By no means am I an expert with phpbb3 but let me know if you need any help. 8)

not digging the new format. now it just looks and feels like every other forum out there. just my 2cents

Yeah, this theme is just temporary. I just wanted to get the site up and running on the new server.

Did you consider a dedicated from iWeb.com ? I'm not their dealer, but I was also looking for dedicated and iWeb does have lots of sweet deals plus they maxup the ram for no fee and get tons of bandwidth on fast server. I think if u want to move away you can do that for refund @ godaddy up to 30 days.

same question, is there anyway we could have the setting from the last forum that everytime you sign out all the unread post will be marked as read
