Installed 2 already, very nice unit for the money. much better touch responce than the f-series junkers. if you don't need nav then go with this one.

Did you run into any issues? I'm assuming you also bypassed the parking break interlock... what method did you use?

Also, how's the iPod interface? Using a standard cable or the 4100-specific one?

the touch/swipe feature is not as iPhone'ish as they made it out to be but its kinda nice. bypassing is as easy as wiring 1 relay to switch to ground with the remote turn on as a trigger. Oh one issue is the damn thing doesn't have a power antenna wire, WTF is that about installed in a toyota supra and had to put switch on power antenna so it would go down without turning off radio, thats friggin dumb on there part

Can you eleborate a bit on how to use/wire the relay. Is there a specific one I should use?

also, are there any issues with using the remote lead to turn on mulitple items, ie triggering the relay plus turning on my amps?

the relay is easy to wire,

85 goes to ground

86 goes to remote turn-on/from #30 on relay from below

30 goes to ground

87 goes to the green wire on the pioneer harness

as far as hooking up to much to the remote turn on wire, that just depends on what you are hooking up to it and what kinda of current draw they have. you can add a relay to the actual remote turn-on wire and then you souldn't have any problems with using it to trigger things. most relays are 30amp. if you wanna add a relay to the remote turn-on to bump up its capacity here's how, if you do this then when you do the bypass the use terminal 30 from this setup below to go to 86 on the relay from above info

85 goes to ground

86 to remote turn-on

30 will be your new remote turn-on output connection\also goes to #86 for bypass relay above

87 gets a solid constant or ignition source that will actually be feeding the parts to are trying to trigger with the remote turn-on

SO everything works with the 4100DVD? I just got a credit for my F series PILE OF CRAP and it looks like this is the radio that I am going to get with the credit. It will be nice to have a remote control again!

Can anyone let me know if this unit can be upgraded to a Nav unit? If so, how?

No.

I installed mine yesterday and so far I love it. It sounds way better than my F series, no lag and I can use my Pioneer steering wheel controller ;) I miss the navigation but it never worked half the time anyway.

I'm enjoying this one for a couple hours now. Problem is, I'm located in Europe and have an US version. Anyone know if there's any chance of changing the radio tuner band jump to the euro specific/is there a way to change the dvd region?

Has anyone ever had the "caution: screen image may appear reversed" come up on their screen and it wouldnt go away? I don't even have a backup camera which is what the manual says its for.

random question, is it true the clock can only be set to 24 hr (military) time?

Posted Jan 12, 2010 · 20:49 UTC#13

I think they must have updated the firmware, because when I bought my avh-p4100dvd about two to three months ago, its in regular 12 hour time format.

Hey i have a few questions regarding installation...

I have a 2006 ford explorer, and when i wired everything my unit would not work because my radio acc switch wire seemed to not work for some reason in the factory harness? So i wired the acc cord directly to the battery for the unit to work, but i was wondering if there is a better solution? I know i need to install a switch so the unit is not on 24/7.

Second, i also had a problem with the antennae jack and was wondering how you got around that?

Third, i purchased the bluetooth unit but i can't manage to get it to receive power and was wondering how you hooked this up?

Thanks in advance!!!

1) run a single wire from the deck's ACC lead to your cigarette lighter

2) still working on that one myself...

3) the BTB200 comes with a harness that needs to be tapped into the same wiring as the deck harness. I believe there's a yellow and a ground.

Hello I am new hear and I am hoping I can find my answer here.

I just installed a AVH-P4100DVD in my truck. I found the instructions to bypass the DVD safety where I used a relay and tied in the E-brake wire (LT GRN), the remote wire(WHT/BLU) and ground. Additionally, I installed a Boyo back up camera.

Problem #1:

I was unable to get the back up camera to work on my HU, but realized that the "gear" wire had to be hooked up so that when the vehicle is in reverse the camera video will be displayed on the HU. So I am assuming it is safe to say that if 12v is connected to the "gear" lead the camera should function. I did this as a test and viola I got a picture. So I disconnect my temporary 12v wire and I was going to figure out where in the heck the Reverse hot lead is. However, this is where my problems began. Even with the "gear" lead completely disconnected I still get a video image from the back up camera on the HU. Oh, but that's not it. While I am listening to either radio, satellite or a CD the back up image will just appear for no reason. Sure I can touch the screen and it goes away, but less than 30 seconds later the back up camera screen reappears. Now mind you there is NOTHING connected to the "gear" lead. I have to go in to the settings and turn off the camera to keep this from happening.

What is going on? Did I do something wrong or am I forgetting something?

Problem #2:

As I mentioned above I install a relay to bypass the safety function of the DVD player from a

on Youtube. But when I put in a DVD all I get is the sound and no video. I am assuming the E-brake wire (lt grn) has to be grounded, but what happens if you connect 12v to is? Am I doing something wrong?

UPDATE:

I have possibly found the answers to my problems

Back up camera:

In the "source" screen of the HU there is a "Rear View" button in the upper right hand corner. If you select that, to view the rear of the vehicle, you have to push it again or the back up camera will continue to come on after 8 seconds no matter how many times you touch the screen.

DVD play back:

The E-brake wire has to be grounded while or after the movie is playing. So having a relay wired in is not going to work since the relay is activated once the HU is turned on. So the only option I can think of is a switch installed grounding the E-brake wire once you start playing a movie.

Wrong, you have the relay wired to the remote startup lead hence switching the relay on and making the HU thinking the Ebrake is up.

Yes it can. AVIC-U220 nav unit just released.
