My girlfriend just bought a new vehicle with the D3 installed by previous owner. On a trip to Cali, a very hot day with AC on, the cd player/Nav system suddenly stopped working while playing a cd. There were a couple of times afterward that the Nav system would read its disk for a moment but now it just gives Read Error. No specific read error, just read error. She hit the reset button and it beeped a couple of times but nothing.

The radio part still works.

Is this fixable without sending back to Pioneer or are we better off to buy a new system?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Well have you tried any other kinda disc? Try playing a different CD, or a DVD movie. Does the NAV disc work? If nothing works at all then I suppose you could try a laser cleaner or something. Otherwise there is probably something broken internally. Probably wouldn't be worth sending it in as Pioneer charges a $200 minimum. Or if you have an iPod you could just use that with your D3 instead of CD's. But then obviously your still without a NAV system.

Yes, we have tried other cd's and the Nav disk and they wont play either. The cd player seems dead as we always get a read error.

I will try the laser cleaner idea. I'm sure it cant do any more harm than whats already there anyway.

Thanks for the idea.

Yeah try the laser cleaner that's why they make them. Like you said it's not gonna do anymore harm than is already done. If that don't work then your probably hit. Put it up on ebay and just buy something new :)
