Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone ever tried using their iPhone as an internet access point? I've heard that you can use a workaround to get internet in Windows XP with an iPhone, and since the AVIC uses Windows mobile....might it be possible?

Thanks,

Considering that there's no way to use a non-jail-broken iphone as an access point, (the keyword is tethering) i'm going to say no..

And Windows Mobile/CE is an embedded OS, it shares almost nothing with your desktop OS.

I'm actually using my iPhone data right now on my laptop over Wifi using pdanet, a program that turns your iPhone into an ad-hoc access point (my roommate didn't pay the cable bill, so I'm stuck with this). I doubt there's any way to share this with the AVIC, there's a USB mode but it only works with XP.

Yeah, I looked into it, and it does appear that PdaNet is intended for XP. It also requires an AdHoc network setup and iTunes. Unless anyone knows of any way you can install these on the AVIC's Windows Mobile environment, I'd have to say it's not possible. :(

Yeah, the iPhone has to be jail-broken in order to use PdaNet, but I don't know much about Windows Mobile, so if it's nothing like XP (adhoc and iTunes install), I guess I'm boned.

What about just a regular air card? the problem with those is that they require preinstalled software to be able to connect (sierra, kyocera, etc..). Has anyone ever been able to connect their AVIC to the net? If so, how?

With the new 3.0 apple firmware, you are now able to hack and use tethering on the iphone 3g. I have one and have been using tethering for weeks now. It works flawlessly and the speed is comparable to DSL-lite in some locations. I wonder if now with this tethering hack it will be possible. Anyone try it yet?

You can enable the internet tethering on iphone os 3.0 "without" jail-broken it,and it's ridiculously easy.

Here is the link show you how to do it ,I have been using it for a month ,work like charm

As for as to make it work with AVIC unit ,it's doable with bluetooth connection ,but that does require some serious programing job on the existing AVIC OS .

But for me ,I don't see any point of doing that since Iphone3G/3GS itsefl is already doing a better job.

Awesome! Thank you.

It is definitely doable via bluetooth (something that is in iPhone 3.1). Not only that but CE 5.0 includes some new bluetooth networking features. :P

I've also been using tethering on the iphone for weeks now. Let At&T try to build me for a service they don't offer. Since I've got my Iphone 3g in december I have never got 3g speed over 400KB.. pathetic, at least the tethering is fast.
