Upgrade F700BT to F900BT

Hello there,

I just bought the AVIC F700BT for install on my 07 Mustang GT and I noticed that there are a couple of wires missing in the harness with comparison to the F900BT. The ones that I am interested into are:

- VSS wire (Speed indicator)

- Video Output (RSE)

I bought the PAC c2r-frd1 wire harness, which has connections for RSE and VSS wire. I am planning to cannibalize two sets of wires on the Pioneer harness: the Blue wire for power antenna, and the Brown RCA output for rear view camera. The mustang does not have a power antenna, and I do not plan on installing a rear view camera. I will plug them respectively in the Pioneer harness where the VSS wire and the RSE wires are supposed to be for the F900BT.

Now - on to the questions:

I read somewhere in this forum that the Mustang does not use the blue antenna wire (Power relay). Is that really true? Eg besides firing up or down the antenna, isn't there another function for that wire?

The Pioneer manual says that the VSS connection is useless for the F700BT, because I suppose it lacks the gyros for dead reckoning. Has anyone tried to do this bypass (eg install the VSS on a F700BT)? Does that add accuracy or is it just a dead wire?

The Pioneer manual says that the video output is unecessary for the F700BT. Has anyone tried to do this bypass (eg install the RSE on a F700BT)? Is it working?

Cheers

And Pioneer is correct, the F700BT does not have the hardware for the VSS, that's one of the features that makes it less expensive then the F900BT.

Does the Mustang have a physical Antenna or one that on the back glass? My civic has one on the back glass and I have to use that wire to make the antenna signal booster amp cut on so that it get as good a signal as a regular antenna. If the mustang does not have an antenna amp or ot a powered (up/down) antenna then you should not have to worry about it.

The Mustang has an antenna on the hodd of the car - and it's not powered up. I guess I shouldn't have any problems then. For the rest of the post it looks like the gyros are not incorporated in the F700BT so the VSS will not increase the accuracy of the system. However it could be useful if there is a mod upgrade to change the audio volume with the speed.

You're missing the point, the pin that does VSS input on the harness has nothing inside the F700BT to do anything, nothing to read, nothing to sense, nada, zip, zilch, it's effectively a blank pin inside.

I hope that doesn't crush too many of your dreams

Better to know than to hope :) But I didn't want to open the F700BT to check it out. Glad you did. Thanks!

PS is that the same for the video out then?
