I just bought the xm tuner that goes along with my N3. it came with an antenna and the installation manual for my n3 shows that it doesnt have to be hooked up. IS this true?

You absolutely need to use the antenna that came with the XM tuner. It is a specialized antenna for recieving the XM signals from both the satellites and from land-based tranponders...
