First, my AVIC has been in use less than a week and I am still learning. Allow me a few observations/questions:

1: I wish the display were brighter, 2: I wish the NAVI system was as "smart" as my Garmin NUVI, and 3: how do you turn the thing off/on?

Other than these minor "problems", I am quite satisfied with the F90, and its iPod and XM radio performance more than makeup for the navi sytem's shortcomings. Perhaps a Tele-Atlas update will be available soon.

you turn it off by selecting OFF in the source menu

Hmm...

1. Did you try adjusting display brightness?

2. Navi software is smarter than anything Garmin could possibly build. TeleAtlas maps leave something to be desired though.

3. Turn the ignition off.

Thanks for replies.

I'll look for the "off" in the menus. Brightness is at 10.

As to the navi system -- it's only as good as the map program and Tele-Atlaas is not too good. For eample, I live on a short, 6 house street which runs parallell to the main road. My Garmin NUVI announces, "Turn right, then turn left and then announces "arriving at destination" as I drive into to garage. The AVIC system tells me "Arriving at destination"

about a block before my street. Now, this might be good enough, but in a strange city -- maybe not.

There's no real "off" in the menus, but you can turn off A/V source, and turn the screen off.

TeleAtlas maps aren't the greatest in the US, but you could try installing 2008.04 ones -- they should be better than stock ones from 2007.

1: I wish the display were brighter - when the display brightness is set to 10 on mine, it's blinding at night - it has to be dialed down to about 5. Set at 10 in the daytime can even be too bright sometimes! Is your firmware 2.0?

2: I wish the NAVI system was as "smart" as my Garmin NUVI - true that; TeleAtlas maps aren't so good.

3: how do you turn the thing off/on? - the F-series are in a state of "always on". You can't ever power them down. You can turn off the source, as instructed above though.
