AV error on F700bt

So I'm having all kinds of problems but this is the most pressing. I bought this unit 2/20/09 and the box says it has the 2.0 update installed.

anyway, it worked fine for about 2 hours (i was moving to california) until it began randomly freezing/rebooting. It would just go back to the pioneer main bootup screen and stay there for a while ignoring all commands. Other times it will freeze on the map. This would happen regardless of whether music was playing from the sd card, radio, or i it was off. It also happens regardless of whether I have a route programmed in the gps or not. Eventually i'll get a fatal error message as follows:

Program: av

Exception : 0xC0000005

address : 02d224f0

this would conveniently happen when i had no clue where i was or what the next direction on my trip was. the only way to fix it was to stop the car, turn it off, turn it back on, and maybe the unit would act right again for a little bit, after it prompts me for my antitheft code. After this, it also forgets my music settings (such as shuffle)

Pioneer wants me to send it to them but i would very much like to avoid the shipping cost, not to mention the uninstall/install price since it has to be done by a licensed dealer. And of course there's the weeks of waiting followed by them telling me it passed on their bench and just have them send it right back. please help!

It could be a whole host of issues. That 0xC0000005 error means something tried to call a memory location outside of the addressable memory space. (like a program is trying to access something in a memory area that doesn't exist)

If you don't want to send it in, I'd try to reload the pioneer update on the unit, or reload the original files onto the unit via booting into Windows mode on the unit.

Honestly though, I'd just send it back to them before you mess with it if your unit is un-modded and already throwing errors. It could be that you even have a hardware error present in the unit that isn't fixable by any actions you could take yourself.

Thanx man. I guess i'll just bite the bullet and send it in. I'm not too savy with that kind of stuff. I don't even know how to get it to boot in windows mode and how/where to get the files/update to load onto it.
