Hello,

I wanted to know if there was anyway to have a wireless remote control (preferably one that's mountable on the steering wheel) work with the AVIC-F90bt? Does anyone have experience with one that works (or works horribly)?

There is no IR sensor on the radio so it isn't possible to use a wireless remote. The only way you are going to be able to use a remote is if you car or truck has steering wheel controls.....bummer for sure.

what about the wired remote plug on the back.? could you plug in a remote sensor and mount it and then use a remote? haven't tried it but i am considering it. I have a remote eye from a previous install. I may try and let you know the results.

the wired remote plug in the back of the unit is for the steering wheel control adapter to plug into, not an IR extender

I would contend that if someone were enterprising enough, they could build a device that converts IR commands into the relevant voltages that the input expects for the different steering wheel button presses. IR Fast Forward command == Voltage 1 that the steering wheel adapter puts out, IR Rew command == Voltage 2 that the steering wheel adapter puts out, etc. Since that remote input is used by Pioneer and Sony, I wouldn't be surprised if someone (PAC or otherwise) may have already built such a device.

Just saying, nothing is that absolute these days. :D

Ah...so apparently the only option (if no steering wheel remote exists) is to buy the marine remote control. This from an email sent over to Pioneer.

That sucks. Completely using the touch screen kind of sucks.

the Sony wired remote somewhat works on my f90bt controls most of the basic functions.

just moved it to the center console.

According to Crutchfield (and an email from Pioneer), the marine remotes are CD-MR70 or CD-MR80D.

To run the Sony remote, does the headunit have to be hacked with software?

no, just plug it in.

offroaderf150, I actually bought and installed that "waterproof" wireless remote and have it working. It is composed if a unit that plugs into the wired port on the F90BT and a wireless remote that you can put anywhere, though it is a bit large for the steering wheel.

It is still being listed on eBay regularly http://cgi.ebay.com/PIONEER-wireless-WA ... %26ps%3D63 though it's not cheap but it works like a charm. Volume, track, source, seek and mute all work.

Old old OOOLD topic, but wanted to throw in my 2 cents since Google is pretty much date blind... i mean thats how i found this post today... Google just dont care... like a honey badger...

Anyway. I have my BEng and  I have experience with car stereo installation and have my MECP from a long time ago and also ASE A6.

And A+, N+, S+, MCSE, etc etc.

That said I took my AVIC-F90BT apart to look into upgrading the RAM &/or NAND.

while inside the belly of the beast I noticed there is in fact a port available for iR reciever to be attached.

So... I attached!

Now having had a long history with car audio I have many Pioneer remotes in my drawer of stuff and thangz. None seemed to work. BUT I decided to try a windows media remote and what do you know.... IT WORKED! I since picked up some very small win media remotes and all have worked. I disabled the Windows "start" button on the remote to prevent Windows CE from rearing its ugly head!

This is not something I would recommend for the novice, getting to the iR port is not an easy task as there are MANY bolts to remove. Let's put it this way... if you don't have or even know what a JIS screwdriver is you probably shouldn't be trying this! But if you do and/or feel good about trying it... it isn't as hard as it is laborious.

THANK YOU AVIC411! You have been a wonderful website to so many! Thank you  , thank you,   thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
