Good evening fellas.. i just got my first navi ever.. installed it in my 08 civic si about 3 days ago... when i installed it everything worked properly expcept for the turn by turn directions. i never heard the ladys voice. Also, the little box that opens up on the top left hand of the screen thats supposed to have the directional arrow never showed it was just 2 empty purplish boxes..

Now 3 days later.. it does not pick up my location for the mad at all... apparently im on some road in cali... i never even been to cali.. If anyone can please be of any assistance it would be greatly appreciated.. i installed this thing myself and was super proud that everything worked.. now im having what seems to be a hardware malfunction... thanks guys.. oh and great site :D

NINJA EDIT** i forgot to add that the navi started telling me i was in california after i choose update navi to factory settings in the gps settings section cause it was frozen in a place i visited earlier in the day..

There may be an initial setting that programs your initial location as in California.

Is your car parked outside? Do you receive GPS signals? Or, are you getting no GPS signal so the California default is shown on the map?

If you drive around, does the map move or is it stationary?

If you do not get a GPS signal, you need to correct that problem first.

Now you've got to troubleshoot why you're getting no GPS signal now. I'm sure you're parked outside while testing it. Where is the GPS receiver? If you have time, you could pull out your head unit, make sure the GPS cable is attached to the head unit, and also make sure the GPS antenna is exposed to the sky. If the GPS is in line of sight of the sky and the cable is plugged into the head unit and not pinched then you can rule that out.

If you have a backup of your My Flash Disk then you could restore that. Maybe there's another way to reinstall the software. I'd check the hardware first but I'm not too knowledgeable about the software. Maybe someone else can give you a better idea how to troubleshoot the software side of things.
