you should be able to...i believe scosche and metra make a double din kit for the older explorers.

The Best Kits BKFMK552 will make your life easier. You will still have to do some minor trimming around the radio opening in the dash, but be careful, the kit holds itself in with clips, somewhat like the factory unit did, too much trimming, and you will have a VERY recessed radio.....
