Hi everyone,

Is it possible to use the genuine apple compostie a/v cable with f900bt instead of the Pioneer one and still have ipod controls etc.?

Thanks,

stm

Yes it is, I just replaced my crappy broken Pioneer cable with the apple composite cable and it works great! Hopefully this one is more solid than the Pioneer. It sure feels like it.

Hey guys

i picked up a rocketfish iPod cable for my f700 as i could not find any other iPod/composite cables when i was looking.

The ipod controls all work great, but there is no video or sound (yes i checked the cables are connected properly)

i am using a 5Gen iPod video

Any suggestiones?

Change the AV in the settings to iPod/USB.

I can confirm this cable works perfectly. I got mine instead of the stupid Pioneer cable. They're readily available at bestbuy for 60-70$ (CAD).

Just to confirm, the Pioneer part CD-IU230V isn't necessary for IPOD control? You can use the cable that came with your IPOD or any aftermarket cable that has the IPOD proprietary connector and composite output? I wonder then why would anyone spend $50+ on a Pioneer IPOD cable??

You need a cable with composite (left, right, and video) and a USB connector. The apple one runs about 52 bucks normally, but so far is much higher quality than the Pioneer (which stopped working right channel after a few months).

Also, Best Buy had the apple cable on clearance, I paid 25 bucks for mine :D

Thanks for the calrification, so as I understand it now the USB serves as the IPOD control and the composite is used to send the audio/video. Any Cable with those features should work - I am still puzzeled at how expensive they are.

would this work? http://www.amazon.com/Composite-Chargin ... 486&sr=1-9

That one looks like it should work.

I did some reading and discovered that many of the new/updated IPODS require a genuine IPOD cable, apparently there is actually a chip in the cable itself, if the chip isn't present the IPOD won't work. So I guess that answers my question as to why the cables are so expensive.
