iPod randomly not connecting

I'm new to the forums so forgive me if this has already been discussed. I originally had a 5th generation iPod connected to my 900bt and at first it would randomly not connect at startup. If I unplugged the iPod and then plugged it back in it usually would come back up. I tried restoring the iPod and even positioning it differently in the glove compartment but had the same results. I also have a nano that would come up every time so I began to suspect the 5th gen iPod. After reading on these forums I then decided to apply cmh928's mod. Perhaps this was coincidence but after applying the mod the 5th gen iPod began to connect reliably every time. Then out of the blue yesterday the problem started again. So I went out last night and bought a new 120gb iPod classic. Hooked the new one up last night and everything was good. Then this morning no iPod. Tried unplugging and plugging back in and still nothing. I then hooked up my nano and even it wouldn't connect. Turned the truck off and back on and the new classic still won't connect, but now the nano will. Grrr! Now that I know the iPod isn't the problem, does this sound like a defective cable or a defective head unit?

Defective headunit -- discussed many many times on this forum (not your fault, it's the avic's fault) -- changing the ipod cable has helped some, but most have persistant problems after changing the ipod cable to apple brand or other brand cable...sorry

Will Pioneer replace the unit under warranty for this problem? Also what Apple cable can be used? Will I have the same control over the iPod using the Apple cable?
