Question about the F500BT and 6ave.com

Hi everybody,

as you can see, I am new to this forum.

I am a German citizen, living in the US for the next 3 weeks. As the F500BT costs more than 500$ in Germany, I thought, it would be nice to buy one here.

I have two questions though:

At 6ave.com they sell the F500BT in a bundle, including the Ipod cable and the amplifier.

Did anybody here order their device from there? In the description, 6ave says, a traffic antenna and a TMC receiver are included. What does traffic antenna do and what the TMC receiver? Are they really included, and do they work in countries, where TMC-signals are broadcast?

I would also like to know, whether it is possible to watch a movie while using the navigation function...(something like mute video, when instructions are spoken or something like that)?

Is there any hack to allow this? Or is it possible without any modification?

EDIT: Is it possible to flash european fw to a us device?

They are not being quite straightforward... US versions of AVIC do NOT have TMC hardware. They have MSN Direct, which does basically the same thing, but does NOT work outside of US (may be Canada, too...). Since 500 does not have radio tuner, different tuning steps should not be an issue.

You can load European maps on it with no problem, and I guess the price looks pretty good. But you won't have TMC and I do not believe anybody got different region firmware and TTS working on them yet...
