hi, i am new to the board. i am from columbus, oh. i am having a complete new system installed in my '05 navigator. this is what is being installed next week. pioneer avic-z1, bluetooth adaptor, ipod adaptor, pioneer back-up camera, steering wheel control, also a rear seat dvd with 12" monitor, all factory speakers are being replaced with infiniti component speakers, and an infinit power amp. i am having it professionaly installed by an excellent company(because i would totally screw it up, then get mad,ect, ect..) the total cost is $5,500.00 does this sound somewhat reasonable or in the ball park? also, i keep reading about this parking brake bypass, can someone tell me exactly what it does, or what my system will not do without it? i really want to know before the install next week! thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. You're certainly going all out :lol:

I don't know about the cost being in the ballpark, but have you gotten more than one estimate? That's really the best way to tell. It also depends on whether you bought all the components seperately or if you are buying them from the shop. The install shops usually overcharge for the items. You can find all the components online from authorized dealers for much less and save yourself some $$. Besides, most installers have no problem installing customer bought equipment.

In terms of what your Z1 will not do without the bypass;
It will not allow you to change the route, program a route or watch a DVD. I don't think it allows you to dial on the BT, but I'm not sure on that one.

Overall, the non-bypassed system doesn't really do justice to the Z1. Go here and you will see what you need to do to bypass the unit. Your installer may or may not give you a hard time with it. If they refuse to bypass it, you will need to do a little work yourself. Pull out your cell mute wire and put it in the 'secret connector' spot. (You will see when you read the 'how to'). Then ask them to run the parking brake wire, a grounded wire and the wire hooked up to the 'secret connector' to a spot where you can easily access them. Strip the ends of the wires, twist them together (or solder), throw some electrical tape around them and you're good to go.

Good luck!
