Sorry for the double post, but I was hoping to get more attention to this problem. If you have any ideas I would love to hear them:

If you are working in a lighted shop the twlight sensor me be shuting off head lights. Cover twlight sensor should be a little plastic blub on the top of dash. If the truck has fog lights you may have a ground problem. Or You may have diconnect key on hot wire to headlight relay for automatic head light timer if equiped.

No the truck was not equipped with automatic headlights. The truck does have factory fog lights, and those ALWAYS work, key on or off. It's just hte headlights that don't work.

The truck is too tall to pull into my garage. So I was outside in the dark. And the lights will turn on with the key off, but as soon as I turn the key on, the lights go out. But what's weird, when I hit the high beams, the high beam indicator comes on in the dash, but it's still dark outside.

Oh, dear. Are you sure the headlight switch is plugged in? Both harnesses?

If they both weren't plugged in why would it work when the key is off but not when the key is on?

Because It's a ford. Sorry couldn't resist. Hope it all works out though. I'm out of ideas.

Oh dear this is an interesting problem.

Well let's think about this. The headlights and truck works fine when it's off. However, its the act of powering up that somehow changes something and causes the headlights to not work while running.

So the problem has to be in what is running while the truck is. The truck did work though before the install.

hmm...

Have you tried removing the bypass and just running the truck and z1 regularly?

Sorry, I double posted here and in the vehicle specific section.

It was a friend's truck and it was a plow switch, it turned the lights off and turned on the ones on the plow. I must have accidentally tripped it with my leg or something.

LOL, I posted in that thread too. I was about to ask in this thread if he had hella type spot lights up front for aux lighting and see if you hit a switch for those. A lot of off road guys have the hella aux lights wired to turn off the headlights when off roading to save the battery since the aux on there own are enough. Not the answer you needed but close!

Glad it all worked out for ya!
