Can the Z1 handle a front camera?

My BMW X5 has a factory option where you can have both a front and rear camera. The factory navigation screen splits the display into two windows to show both. Is there anyway to get the Z1 to do this or something similar?

I was thinking maybe I could get some kind of video switcher that would allow me to choose between the two. I was also wondering if there was some device that could take multiple video feeds and combine them into one.

there are video swither systems capable of doing what you're talking about however they're designed for commercial use. None that I know of are meant for the car. As for making the z1 do something like that, I don't believe it can, but I don't have one so I can't be 100% sure.

The Z1 does have an AV in, and you could select it and have it be a front mounted camera. Unless you bypass the lockouts, you wouldn't see it while moving. That input was meant for a second DVD player or Xbox or something like that.

I'm sure there are video switchers that are mounted in a car or possibly something that would take 2 RCA inputs and merger them into 1. But I have never seen them personally. I would think someone has got to make something out there for that.

But you could use the AV input and select it and have it be a front camera.

you could put it on a relay, and have the reverse trigger the relay and power up the rear camera, then leave the front camera powered all the other time (with ignition on) you could then go into the rear view camera mode while driving and watch the camera in a chopped screen but it would work. Keep in mind though that most backup cameras are not switchable for the view.. meaning they can not be reversed.. so whats on the left is on the right and vice versa. Of course if you got a non backup camera the image wouldnt be mirrored.

This works on the d2 and I think the z1 has the option to view the rear view camera also, could be wrong though Ill check later. If you would like the wiring for the relay idea i mentioned.. let me know Ill put it together, but it is pretty simple. There shouldnt be really any problem with energizing the camera at all times with ignition on, cameras are meant to be turned on and left on.. but dont quote me please...enjoy
