Hey Guys,

So I'm reading online about all these cities that are moving towards traffic lights with cameras that take pictures of your license plates when calculating that you're speeding.

I also read that some GPS units can warn you when you get to an area with these installed.

Is there an upgrade or way to do this with the z1?

I'm in need of radar detection and deterent. I'm looking into an active radar jammer and radar detector. Any hints?

The only way I know to do what you're talking about would be to set up the intersection in your address book. The best option would be to not go through red lights.

Because of legality issues, Pioneer doesn't put that feature in their US model. In Europe, you can actually download updates every so often that warn you of known speed cameras. Don't think anyone compiles that data here so it would be more difficult

what legality issues would that be? those any different then Europe? I dont think its for the legality I think its more on the "who compiles" that info here that you eluded to is why pioneer doesnt do it.

By legalities, I mean we have so many lawyers that it would be hung up in the courts for years to decide if it was legal or not, and that requires money that Pioneer won't spend. If radar/laser jammers are illegal like they are where I live, there is no way the government would allow my nav system to make a little siren sound and flash red when I am approaching a speed camera

it's a start, but needs many improvements...

i dont think it would be in courts, who would be in court... lawyers? whos lawyers? pioneer probably wouldnt go into court.. and local cities I doubt would go into court either over it. What is the arguement? uhh we dont want people to know where the intersections are? I doubt that since they post many signs at each intersection notifying people of the camera that I have seen. there really isnt any valid arguement that I can see that would justify either side investing in lawyers to go to court.

Oh, and what of the site posted with the info of the red lights intersections? wouldnt that be similar to why it would be in courts for years? but its not, its up and running find. It is a little inaccurate as it shows no cameras in northern california when there surely is.

As it looks it seems very do-able.

Any idea if the downloads can be added to the Pioneer AVIC-Z1 hard drive system.

Well I did a ton of reading on this.

I think the reason is lack of actual use of this type of enforcement in the US. Right now only 14 cities in 4 different states use this type of enforcement. Though it didn't say which ones.

If we were to see these numbers shoot up, I bet there would an incentive for people to want this feature and thus the manuf would provide it.

I'm looking at just getting a valentine v1 to protect against radar (the non auto on kind). Then I'd love a lasar jammer but they're illegal in MN and the ones that are actually tested independently and shown to work cost $600.

There are no legal issues with this. Shoot...even the radio stations around here will tell you about the mobile cameras they set up!

I'm like Duke...I would love to see something like this available here in the U.S. I would gladly pay for the software we needed.

Get Photo Blocker and spray it on your plate(s), and the camera can photograph it.
All of these intersection photo cameras use a flash, and Photo Blocker shines back at the flash, making your plate impossible to read. You cannot see it on the plate.
I purchased some and immediately tested it with a camera and a flash and believe me; it works.
