hmm, how did your truck get stolen when you have a transponder type unit in it stock? howd they get it running? this would suggest that maybe they towed the vehicle, and hence no of the things I have seen in this thread would prevent that, even the tilt sensor might not trigger it. But the gps location from web would tell you where it is.

As for your 8 sirens cntrylvr79, good attempt, but wouldnt 4 do the same thing, or even 2? and besides if they remove the power from a dozen sirens it wont make a sound. There are some things a car owner can do or have done that will be similar to the devices mentioned.. like ignition kill, and other kills like that for min. cost compared to a expensive alarm system.

The key is probably to customize the system for each vehicle, so that for the criminals it isnt so easy to jump in and know exactly where and how to circumvent the security. Best buy and Circuit City have very well known techniques for installation that thieves know just where and what to do. putting wireless kills, and extra sirens, and backup batteries, and sensors, and so on and so on will help, but in the end if the car gets towed, the car gets towed. maybe make it even more difficult by putting the boot on the wheel.. but at some point we have to say geeze enough is enough.. dont park or leave the vehicle in those risky situations, and see that insurance is ample for taking car of such a loss.

I've had a convertible stolen.

EDITED because some Keyboard Tough Guys here are a bit obsessive.

The forums and members here are a unique community. Intelligent members putting their heads together and sharing information makes this forum by far the most usefull tool in this indusrty.

I'm curious how many members have invested in some type of aftermarket accessories before investing into a security system?

I personally was a victim of car theft (f250 FX4 06 King Ranch) and was lucky enough to have got it back. It was minus the entire interior, but at least I got it back. Getting the interior replaced with my insurance company has not been a pleasant one, but that's entirely a different subject.

I think that with all the great minds here, we could start a smarter community when it comes to protecting our investment. Share your thoughts and ideas, and what you have done to beat the scum bags that want to take your hard earned toys.

Make sure you notify and amend to your policy everything you've added to your vehicle, or you'll loose it all! I lost 24k in my learning experience, and i would like to help the rest of you from the same doom.

Here are my plans for the F250 once it's back together.
Remote Start and Security
Battery back up on brain
Tilt Motion Sensor
Dual Zone Radar sensor
Satelite communication module (Call by phone-Start-Windows-Locks)
Vehicle GPS Tracking device with battery back up

With the Satelite device when notified by GPS unit (Dials cell phone when alarm triggered) I will be able to enter a code that will shut down the ignition as well as the fuel pump, and rather than use the funtion of rolling windows down I will trigger the door switches (Windows & Locks) useless untill signal resent. At that point, whoever is behind the wheel will be lock inside the vehicle and can't get out if the thief can't break glass. I would also love to install a train horn under the passenger seat to add to mud factor now rapidly accelerating. I will be able to go on the internet and see at any time where the vehicle is. I will be in control, not the thief, not the police, me! Cool Huh?

Have any ideas or comments?

Ok although I'm rarely more than 1000ft from my car, here's the list.

Alarm/remotestart blah blah
shock sensor, motion sensor, battery backup, 8 sirens 4 inside 4 outside, 3 separate starter/fuel disable spots.

Bars welded inside doors to prevent slim jims from opening.

Connector rod for outside doorlock removed

Laminate on all windows (except windsheild) keeps window in 1 piece if attempt to break it.

And some other things I've made that I'm not going to go into detail about. I wouldn't say my car is unstealable, cause that's just not true. I'll be damned though if it's going to be loud and painful for anyone who tries.

Yeah 2 or 4 would do the same job, but the intent was to make the sound so annoying and loud that it would get someone's attention. As for cutting power to the system. It's really not possible. Disconnecting or damaging the main battery will trigger the alarm and all of the sirens are powered individually by their own backup batteries. I know no car is unstealable, but previous experience has taught me what a good theif looks for when their going to take a car.

Although this would be the wrong forum to raise this topic in, I feel like everyone should know what the overlying problem is... Your cars are fine, your security systems are fine, these are not the problems, the problem is that there is too many people. I could go on and on for a few pages here describing in DETAIL the effects of overpopulation, but I'll sum it up and leave you all with ONE thought. If there was half as many people on earth, there would be half as many AVIC's stolen....

I've debated getting an alarm system, but I doubt it would hlp. I haven't had anything stolen from inside my car, but I've had the outside vandelized. A security system won't prevent my car from being keyed.

how is it that two posts are displayed before the original thread starters post here?

there was an issue with the time stamp on the forum when those posts were made.

One of the best ways I found to keep a vehicle safe is to have layers of security (as was already mentioned). First and foremost layer, the alarm. An annoyance at best for a car theif, the second layer, would be some kind of kill switch for one of the 3 things a car needs to start (spark, air, or fuel). I myself had a kill switch hidden that shut off my fuel pump. No pump, no fuel, no fuel... no go. There are also some interesting quick connects for aftermarket steering wheels that work really well too. No steering wheel.... no steer right?

But, ultimately, if the theives are versatile enough to have a tow truck.... bye bye birdie. There really isnt anything, short of the boot or removing your wheels, that will keep a tow truck at bay. LoL, even removing your wheels wouldnt stop a flat bed tow truck.

I think though, out of all of those, a gps tracker would work best. No car is safe, period. If its wanted, it will get stolen. So... ok, its stolen, you can now at least track where its going via the gps tracker and possibly get it back with the help of the fuzz.

I thought of that years ago, but I never had a vehicle that I wanted do it to.

Forklift... lol. I like that airbag idea. except i would have it triggered from the internet. Anywhere in the world and POOF in the bastards face... My only worry is my fam or girlfriend would mess with me and id kill em...

I don't go too crazy. I augmented the OEM RKE in my 09 accord with a hornet 727, a 504D shock sensor(to cover the rear of the car), a 506T glass sensor, and a KP technologies window rollup module(the does windows in both directions stock, don't will only roll down from the remote, this module lets you roll up form the remote too). It was $130 total for the alarm, 2 sensors, and window module. It took me about 3 hours to install it, and worth every penny. I won't say where the brain is, but 2 of those hours of install time was just disassembling the car to hide the brain. I set passive arm and lock, but two "lock" presses from my OEM remote rolls the windows up, and 2 presses of unlock rolls them down :)

Most of the alarms I've seen that BB, CC or even some of the local shops install are simply CRAP. It's not the brand of the alarm that matters, but how it's installed. I'm willing to bet most people with an aftermarket alarm I can reach my hand under the drivers dash, find the brain in within 10 seconds, and trace where the starter cut relay is in another 10. Also setting your alarm too sensitive will desensitize your neighbors. If it's falsing at every car that drives by your neighbors, and even you, will learn to ignore it. If you set it correctly it gets a lot more attention when it does go off. I set warn pretty liberally, but primary is always thoroughly tested and I make damn sure it won't false just because it's raining or some riceboy with a fart cannon exhaust drives by.

I use a false panel from an 02 accord radio to cover my F90, and NEVER leave anything in plain sight that is even the least bit interesting. I also have lojack, but that was more to help with insurance costs that it's functionality.

Sorry, I take security pretty seriously :P

Alright...here is my 2 cents on this subject. I own car stereo shops in Las Vegas, so take it for what it is. I personally don’t think that any car should be without an alarm system. I don’t care if it’s as simple as install a flashing led in your dash that turns on thru a relay when you turn your ignition off. That will detour the "casual thief" and upon my estimation in about 60% of the vehicle thefts in my area. Now, everything you do from here is a benefit. If you have a 2 way paging alarm that notifies you at the remote (i.e. while you are sleeping) That allows you to "react" to the "theft in process" I am not going to tell you that you should arm yourself with a shotgun and kill your neighbor kids, but if you live in Texas, have at it! :) ANYTHING you do to make your vehicle not "simple" to break in to will help. Start with window tint; you can’t covet what you can’t see! Another great idea is installing "jimmy jammers" or an equivalent metal plate so that they cannot simply "pop" the lock cylinder out and slide the vehicle to unlock (this is a huge problem! The factory "alarm" systems are "disabled" by the key in the driver door unlocking it, or any process that imitates it correctly) If you are in an area that is considered "high theft" don’t leave your car where it will be noticed by someone casually looking for a target! You have to think like a thief to prevent a thief! If you have an "avic411" sticker on your car (or anything that is screaming I have a lot of expensive stuff in here that you want) then you have to understand that your window might get broken because you are essentially "bragging" to a thief! When you take the step of investing in your car (weather it be stereo or accessories, even wheels!) You should add a "rider" or supplement to your insurance policy. All of my show vehicles have an extra 10k in insurance, just in case! The best "add on" for an alarm system is a GPS system. I don’t mean shove a garbage box $100 eBay part under your dash that they will throw in the bushes while they are bypassing your alarm, I mean a high end system that is "hidden" carefully (and battery backed up internally) good spots are back of seats, headliner... At that point, you may lose your car, but help the local authorities in a huge theft ring bust!

One Last quick rant...If you are wondering how they are stealing your vehicle with a transponder key, get a hold of GM before they go bankrupt on Monday and thank them for making the vehicle still start without a transponder key if you force the key cylinder forward! (06 and prior!)

Never had anything stolen from me, even car audio wise, oddly enough.

No security measures implemented at the moment.

I actually don't have the f700 secured at all so that my dash isn't ruined if someone DOES decide to take it.

I've seen people's dashes that had the head units secured with the bolt in the back, and it just causes the thieves to tear MORE of the car apart to get to it than is needed.

Having just discovered this section, I am wondering if I even want to keep the nice amount of car audio I have invested...
