welp, i did some searching, the xtrememac roadshow car cables look slick.. and probably work like described, but what about that person that wants to use the ipod add on for the z1? you cant and use the roadshow cables at the same time.. soooooo instead get the simple cables for video that plug into the headphone jack at the top, this will give you video and audio for your movies, while maintaining music through the ipod add on for the avic z1... hope this helps someone... i had been looking for some passthrough or even a splitter until I put this together

Do you have a link to this item? Video from the headphone jack! interesting..... Man tha would be great if i think i am right in what you are saying
I wonder if this is something like you are talking about?
ok tillithz please tell me you made a booboo, or else how the heck do you get video through the headphone jack?
lol right on, no boo boo, the headphone jack on the ipod video (80 gig) contains audio AND video. here check out this link

this way you can keep ipod connected to z1 for power, and control of music. but for movies you would have to switch to headphone out for video.
hmm... Im remembering now that once plugged into the avic the ipod is not controlled from the ipod anymore, so um, that might not allow you to play the movie while connected to the avic. Ill have to check once I get my car back. But yes, the a/v cables I linked do allow for video out from the headphone jack
Copied this from the ipod section. Would seem to solve the control problem
For those of you who bought the Pioneer Ipod adapter and want control back of your Ipod when connected to the in car system, here is how you do it with out having to disconnect the Ipod from the dock connector to pick your music.
It will of course invalidate your warranty on the adapter but you will have control. Open up the Ipod adapter box, just two Phillips screws, you should see a connector that has all the wires going to it from the white cables coming into the box from the Ipod. Carefully pull the connector upwards to disconnect it. In the middle there should be a blue wire, lift the little peg that holds the very small socket that the blue wire is connected to and it should now just pull out. Put a bit of electrical tape around it to stop it touching any thing and put the top back on the box. Of course you do this with the power off and pull the power connecter out of the Ipod adapter.
After reconnecting it all, you should now have full control of your Ipod to pick your music. The down side is you loose the auto stop and start when you turn the car ignition on and off.
Just to clarify for people that might be all excited about this:
You can't control your iPod THROUGH the Z1 with this set up. You have to use the iPod itself.
I bought that Dynex 6' A/V Cable for iPod with Video from best buy that plugs into the headphone jack but I have to crank the volume right up and it gives me a hiss through the speakers ! Will check it again today.
Also while on the subject,
When I play songs through the Pioneer ipod adapter I can`t click on the next track it just goes back to the begging of that same song that is playing.....the only way I can skip to the next song is to click search then playlist then all the songs come up.
make sure the cable is plugged in all the way.. it has to be in secure. check to see if you have repeat on, that would cause what your describing with the not being able to select the next song
Thanks tillithz
I had the repeat on ![]()
Also I took the Dynex 6' A/V Cable for iPod with Video out and put this in http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=010&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=200044987804&rd=1&rd=1 now it works great.

That's because you're utilizing the tiny little, cheap op-amp that's inside the iPOD that is only meant for a set of headphones, not to be rerouted through another amplifer. The cable you're using has a different impedance from your headphones, so you've got to crank it, to hear anything. This goes for any device that is intended to be heard through headphones. While that's an easy solution, it's not much of one for the audiophile. You'll need to use the data port on the bottom for a clean audio out.
Thanks ImolaVirus
I am now using the Data Port now and everything works great .
fyi, not to certain that the audio out on the bottom is different then the top. For example, not sure it is not amped in the same way since it has volume control.
This may be of interest here if you're willing to wait for a couple of months...ipod or other player.
The site says it will have full video and music compatability. Only thing is it looks like you won't have in dash control as the Z1 does now but it will have it's own wireless controller. I'm picturing controlling your MP3 player on an AUX video screen or something where it would display your MP3 screen directly onto your in dash screen.
We can only hope.
I really searched this topic a crap load back when I got my Z1 and I finally came across the perfect solution. Not only does it have the connection for the Pioneer iPod adapter, it has a connector for the 2.5mm a/v out and a sweet docking station. Check it out: http://www.diceelectronics.com/ipod_connections.htm
I had this working perfectly in my 04 F150 for months, until I f-ing updated my iPod Video software!!! It's because I had to be able to hit them menu button on the iPod to get back to the videos, but now while it is on the dock, it will not let you press any buttons. Before it would let you go through the iPod's menus as long as you had the Z1's source on the A/V input. Is there a way to change the iPod software back to the previous version. Of course the only reason I updated it, now that I think of it, was because itunes said some of my newer videos wouldn't work until I updated. Anyway, it worked like a charm and looked bad ass for a while!
Check out this link I just messed with that kindof setup a month ago
