Hi. Just joined the forum today and I glad to know that this site exists! Just got the Z1 installed this past weekend and tried to do the head light by pass. I have a May 06 unit however my map screen does not dim when I turn my lights on? I do not have auto lights. Can someone either direct me to another post or give me direction on how to properly connect the ILL wire so that I can bypass the system. Thanks!

Well, yes, you will need to flash your lights to bypass your lockouts. The ILL wire is usually just a wire that is at 12V when your lights are on and 0V when your lights are off. Generally this wire is at the radio harness for the stock radio (if your stock radio dimmed when you turned on the lights it should be there).

There is an ILL wire on the back of the Z1 and you hook that to your ILL (or ILLUMINATION) wire in the car's wiring.

It should/could be right at the radio.

Some vehicles are not so lucky and you need to take them from the headlight switch or the fuse box.

If you want any more specific info, you might need to post your year, make and model of the vehicle in question.

You could just get a circuit to do it for you:

And you wouldn't need to find your car's ILL wire, but I would want it connected so the radio would dim with the lights on.

Illumination wires behind the radio are brown and red/blue(dimmer). Remember to ground the head unit to the chassis, for there is no true ground behind the radio. The mounting screws for the radio bracket are fine.

Thanks to everyone that's chimed in with my problem. Just curious though...I belong to another forum (club titan.org) and I asked the same question on that site. The installer used an aftermarket wiring harness and I was advised by one of the members that the illumination wire on the harness is orange? Before I go into my car to hook everything up and maybe this sounds like a stupid question (as you can tell,I 'm not that savvy when it comes to wiring- lol) couldn't I just connect that orange wire with the orange/white wire from the Z1 together? Wouldn't that solve my problem? Thanks again!

The illumination wire on the AFTERMARKET harness is orange or orange with a white stripe.

Many times this orange wire does not function though. You can try but most people have to use a wire to the headlight swtch.

I decided to try connecting the 2 wires and it worked! Did the flash and now I have full use of the Z1! Thanks to all that chimed in!
