whats up everyone, i just ordered my avic-d2 and im so anxious for it to arrive...im 27, but i feel like im a 12 yr old, since im an electronics fan
im sure my questions have been addressed before, but can someone hook me up with some answers? :D

1) i also bought the pioneer ipod adapter (CD-IB100) and i wanted to know how compatible is it...can it play the videos on the ipod while then engine is on, or is it restricted? can you really get by without even touching the ipod, just from the navigation menu? because if that is the case, i would keep the ipod in the glove compartment and never even take it out..i would access everything from the screen....

2) from what i have been told, the DVD slot doesnt play regular DVDs, so i would have to buy an external dvd player that i would put in the glove compartment...same question: does the video play while the engine is on, or is it made that you can only view them while parked?

3) Being born and raised in europe, i get a lot of dvds from europe...does anyone know a car dvd external player that would handle both PAL and NTSC dvds?

thanks everyone!!!

1. No, it cannot play videos. It's mandatory that you use it without touching the iPod because it locks the iPod controls, so you have to use the HU's controls. Yes, you can control the iPod through it, but it's clunky and super duper slow. It's rather horrible. You will find it's easier to just disconnect the iPod, queue up your track, and then reconnect. You also cannot browse the iPod without interrupting the current song play. You also cannot browse up and down without it trying to play the playlist/album currently displayed on the screen which is a reason it's so slow.

2. You are correct, it cannot play DVD with its built-in drive. That's for maps only. The video can only play with the vehicle in park with park brake set. However, there is an easy bypass for this.

3. I don't know on this one.

3. no
simply put there is not a "region" free player on the market

thanks everyone for your inputs

in other words i paid $ for nothing when i bought the pioneer ipod adapter...i read other posts on these forums, and it seems to be a piece of garbage...i guess im gonna have to get the %G pioneer audio video cable that will connect my video ipod to the D2

question #3 i found the answer....BLAUPUNKT DVD-ME1 plays both european and american DVDS

and as far as bypassing the system when it comes to watching video while driving, im interested in learning how...me and my wife carpool to work, im sure she can watch stuff off the ipod while i drive...

thanks again fellas

Yeah, sorry to tell you about the iPod adapter, it's definitely crap. Well, it's not the fault of the CD-IB100 itself. The IB100 is much nicer when connected to a HU that supports "Enhanced iPod control". The D2 is just too old of a design. It's the same as the D1 which is 2yrs old already.

IPOD2CAR PXPDA is much better, although still barely adequate.

See the replies to this post about the bypass:

i would like to order one today so i get it before my d2 arrives, only if its really worth it....im sick of buying stuff i dont need :)

Save yourself some money. Plays both PAL and NTSC. Only $59. Highly reputable business. I have ordered from here many times, as others on this board:

Where in Queens are you from? Are you in Queens or So-Cal now? :)
Posted Nov 08, 2006 · 01:00 UTC#10

just moved to LA this march...but I still consider myself a NY-er

I lived in bayside, on bell blvd and union turnpike

i come back "home" like 4-5 times a yr

Posted Nov 08, 2006 · 01:01 UTC#11

nice area. I had a friend who lived in the co-op apts on Bell and 73rd Ave, until he moved out of state also LOL

Posted Nov 08, 2006 · 01:07 UTC#12

thats where i used to play ball at PS 205 on bell and 75th where the co-ops are...

someone told me about the Pioneer SDV-P7, im still hoping i can use a pioneer system so i can use it off the D2...but i aint seeing it online...

if not, by the end of the day im buying the one you told me..

unfortunately that Pioneer single disc dvd player is EXTREMELY rare to come by. I hope you have luck finding it!

Posted Nov 08, 2006 · 01:11 UTC#14

i just saw the price....450 bucks...screw that i'll settle for the cheap one, considering the DVD player will be used 3-4 times per year

and one question for that rca video cable that sells on ebay....does the name of the artist/song title show on the screen as well?

if yes, then im putting on ebay the ipod pioneer adapter i bought...i dont want it no more :)

Posted Nov 08, 2006 · 01:15 UTC#15

Sorry buddy, no idea on this one. I can't stand iPods LOL I use a Pioneer Inno for satellite radio and MP3 player, and I use the AVOX mobile media player basically as a 120GB video ipod, without the cheesy interface and hookups like the ipod LOL (And of course iTunes used to annoy me too when I had an iPod mini)

Posted Nov 08, 2006 · 01:20 UTC#16

oh ok...thank you for your help paisan

i'll be seeing you on these forums...now that im waiting for my d2 to arrive, i'll be here more and more

Nope, that one on eBay is just a cable, but the Pioneer iPod adapter only shows the first 8-characters of artist/song titles anyway.

(And of course iTunes used to annoy me too when I had an iPod mini)

I hate iTunes too. I use XPlay2 which just syncs to files & folders just like a generic mp3 player.

Posted Nov 08, 2006 · 03:24 UTC#18

wow the first 8 letters?? not even the full name of artist/song even though it's the same brand?? what a rip-off

Posted Nov 08, 2006 · 03:38 UTC#19

Nope. It's really quite bad. Search for Ipod2Car if you want something better. It displays full titles and allows browsing without interrupting song play. It has its caveats so it's not perfect, but it's better. It pretends to be an XM Tuner.

Posted Nov 08, 2006 · 03:46 UTC#20

now im pissed...i called pioneer customer service and even asked them...how compatible is it?

oh sir, it's very good since it's the same brand...it will work very well

you 4got to mention you cant even list the damn full name!! what a bunch of shmucks

Posted Nov 08, 2006 · 15:06 UTC#21

damn man, now im even more confused and my D2 hasnt even arrived in the mail yet :)

I just bought that RCA cable for the IPOD (with red white and yellow ends), and i have the pioneer IPOD adapter as well....

the good side of the adpter is that as least I have the 8 letters of the artist/song on my D2, which my RCA cable cannot do

the good part of the RCA cable is that it allows me to watch videos while driving, which the pioneer IPOD adapter cannot do...apparently, while im driving i cannot watch any IPOD videos with the adapter...

since they both have a good side, is there any way i can use both? one for the videos, and the other for the MP3 listings? oh yeah and i wanna add a DVD player as well.......is there any way I can add 3 things, or the AVIC D-2 doesnt have as many inputs? so much for my big plan, it backfired :(

Posted Nov 08, 2006 · 15:28 UTC#22

Yes, you can have both cables connected to the D2.

The CD-IB100 will connect via IP-Bus.

The other cable will connect to the A/V inputs (red, white, yellow RCA's).

Only hassle is you will have to unplug the iPod from one cable and into the other to switch.

I think you will run out of inputs though. The D2 only has 1 A/V input. You could always use an A/V switcher. You might even be able to find one that has a trigger input to switch it. If such a thing exists, you could use an output from your DVD player to automatically control the switcher. I'm almost positive such a thing does exist.

Posted Nov 08, 2006 · 15:46 UTC#23

so then im guessing i would need a dvd player that has both RCA INPUTS AND OUTPUTS...i would put the RCA cable (that i would watch my videos on) into the RCA inputs of the DVD player...and the putput of the DVD player in the RCA of the D2...

i bought 2 dvd players...the blaupunkt me2 and the Innovatek IN-199 Portable DVD/MP3 player with VGA output ...

i just hope at least of them has RCA inputs in the back of the dvd player,,,otherwise im stuck with both

Posted Nov 08, 2006 · 21:03 UTC#24

That would work. Do any of them have A/V inputs?

I was just thinking of an external switcher, maybe like this:

I'm sure there are some not as expensive nor as fancy, but that should give you the general idea.
