Z2 updated to Z3, new problem

I got a Z2, it was updated to a Z3 before I purchased it from someone. I did the two wire bypass and installed the bypass disk and everything worked great except one flaw. The screen would freeze at startup and I could only control the volume. It has never done this during the first 3 months I owned it. So here comes the real problem. I decided to install the update disk to fix the freeze problem (even though it was released years ago). After the successful update I had the reboot problem where it keeps rebooting over and over. I then got into the system by doing the up,up,down, down, T method and did a force flash. I have tried this with the Z2 and Z3 firmware update disk and it says sucessful and then when it gets done I reboot. Then it says "No applicable program" message and no matter what disk I update the drive with it goes back to that error. Under info all the software is loaded and its 3.0 or whatever except there is no version number next to APL. Does anyone know what I can do or what I am missing? Thank you so much for this great forum, its been very helpful so far.

I take it nobody knows what to do when it says "No applicable program"... I guess I might have to get a new drive even though all I don't believe that is necessary.

*edit...

I fixed it, Ran the Freeze fix firmware update for Avic Z2 again (for the third time) and this time it worked. Now question is how do I upgrade to Avic Z3 from here without screwing things up?

I'm experiencing a similar issue and want to confirm that you used the Z2 freeze fix and not the Z3 Gracenote update. Did you ever upgrade back to a Z3?

In my case, I installed a new drive with a Z3 image over a year ago. I had no problems until a couple weeks ago when both the screen and hard buttons would occassionally stop working. Now they are totally dead, except the hard volume and eject buttons.

I removed the screen, did a thorough cleaning of it and the frame, and double-checked all the ribbon connections. I re-installed and it's still dead. I also swapped the Z3 drive with my old Z2. It's still dead. When I try a hard reset, nothing happens. When I insert the update disk, nothing happens. I can listen to CDs, but that's it.

I'll keep trying the freeze fix disk, and may eventually try to do a fresh Z3 image. I really don't want to send it to Pioneer.

You should NOT be installing the Z1/Z2 freezing firmware on a Z3 drive. The unit should not even accept it. This could hose your drive.

You should NOT be installing the Z3 firmware update (for gracenotes) on any Z1/Z2 that has been upgraded. This firmware update is for native Z3 only. The Z3 upgraded drives will already accept gracenotes updates.

Ridicrick,

Your only hope may be to install a fresh Z3 image on your drive (see the sticky posts in the hacks forum) and get your drive to accept the stock Z3 firmware again. Your drive may be failing, and that is the reason that it started freezing at bootup in the first place. By forcing the Z1/Z2 firmware to your flash in the HU, and having Z3 software on the drive, is probably causing the 'no applicable program' error. I did respond to your original post, but it looks like my post was lost when the forum went down and JasonH had to restore from back up a couple of weeks ago.

charliewards,

Do NOT continue trying to change any software, it will only make things worse. It sounds like you have a hardware issue and should send it to pioneer.
