i heard the z110 are the upgrades for the z3 units. but my question is, if we have a z1 unit (have the z3 upgrade hard drive), can we upgrade to the z110? or would you need to buy the entirely new system?

Not much chance of a software upgrade ....

The hardware is different between the Zx series and the new Z110, different GPS receiver, double resolution screen, no harddisk, other processor etc.

 

I expect Pioneer will continue to supply map updates for the "old" systems though...

 

So in short, the only option is to buy a new Z110BT, or in Europe F10BT if you want the new unit....
