Emulate IPod functions on Windows Mobile?

I was checking out the Ipod functions on my avic-f700 and they seem pretty smooth. Anyone know if you can emulate the ipod player on windows mobile/Sprint Diamond and get these player functions without an Ipod. It's cool, but I'm not going to blow 200 bucks for an Ipod just for an mp3 storage device.

Problem is that the iPod isn't just an MP3 storage device in this architecture. The iPod is actually playing the audio back via the RCA analog jacks on AV1, the USB is just there for the AVIC to send control commands to the iPod and read album art.

anyone with a WM phone been able to get the "USB to PC" recognized as a USB device on their avic?
