I have an early 1980's mercedes and am wondering if it is even possible to install this unit (AVIC F310BT) in it

http://www.pioneer.com.au/Products/Navi ... 310BT.aspx

this is where it would go

the stereo in there at the moment is just a detachable single din installed in like 2006, the pioneer unit is obviously a double din. below the stereo is the ashtray and cigarette lighter which is never used.

is this even doable?

cheers

You should probably check on a Mercedes forum. They'd be more likely to know.

any thing is possible with enough $$$, you would probably have enough room if you cut out the ashtray, you will probably have to heavly modify the dash to make it work and mount securely with a lot of fiberglassing, which is either gonna cost you a lot of time or a lot of money, again there is no such thing as "it dont fit" :)

I just realized something, i am right handed and i cant do ANYTHING with my left hand, if i lived somewhere that had right hand drive cars, i would never be able to use my radio! haha :)

It looks like there's enough room with ash tray removed. It also looks like it will be mounted very low in your dash.
