im doing the installation on a 2003 Audi A4 and I must be doing something wrong because the NAV is not turning on...

so far - i just installed the basic wires to see if it powers up (yellow - red - ill and gound) does the parking brake and speed sensor need to be installed to power up????????????????????????????

No they don't need to be hooked up to power up the avic. I'm guessing you're installing a d2? Do you have a multimeter handy? If so check and see if you're getting power on the red and yellow wires. also make sure you're getting ground on the black wire.

Oh here's some stuff that might help you out

Reverse Light blue/red + CCM, conn 3, pin 7

Notes: The CCM (Central Control Module for comfort system) is mounted on the floorpan in a protective box, under the carpet in front of the driver seat.

Speed Sense brown/red or white/blue instrument cluster, blue plug

i figured out one thing so far - the Audi doesnt seem to have a igntion trigger - the red wire in the adaptor goes no where into the factory harness. !!!!!!!!!! hmmm

i have to find an ignition switch right????

Yeah, if you remove the driver side under dash you can get to the ignition harness. I'll see if I can still pull up the spec on your car and edit this post with the wire color for accesory.

EDIT:

wow I didn't close out of it. Here's the wire color for your car.

Accessory yellow/black + ignition harness

took the panel off - sooo many wires!!!!!!! how the hell can i find the yellow wire - theres a million of em???????????

The wire you're looking for is yellow with a black stripe. If you look at wire the key goes in, there should be a fairly large bundle of wires coming from the steering column on the opposite side. You'll probably have to slice off the stupid carpet tape on it to get the wire you need. FYI while you're down the stay away from any wires in yellow loom or wrapped in yellow tape. It also might help if you take off the plastic around the steering column off. There should be a couple torx screw on the under side of it. Then if you turn the steering wheel about 90 degrees and look through it at the front of the cover you'll see a small hole on each side there shuold be a small screw in each of those holes, one hole on each side of the column cover.

thanks for all your input...you have been very helpful

last question - how do i get to the speed sensor wire?

You're going to have pull the instrument cluster. that I don't remember how to do. If I remember correctly though it's pretty close to the same as how it's described in the link below.
