Is there a way to make USB drive accessible in test mode?

Hi, I finally got me a US model F500BT and want to use it in Germany. First, I want to make a backup.

Only problem is, that I don't have a SD Card with 2GB or more, but plenty USB thumb drives etc. Is there a way to access those while in test mode. Currently, I can only see my SD Card in there.

And how about active sync? Can I access its content from my pc?

One more question: Currently I have 1.0007 installed on it. Is it ok to make a fw update?

Thanks for the reply. No matter what I do, it doesn't work. I even updated to 2.0006 and now, the LED of my usb drive doesn't even light. Strange.

Might there be a problem with the unit, or are just the drives incompatible?

I must admit, that I only have Sandisk drives.

EDIT: Ok, I found the solution in the thread of another member. Seems like, I have to partially insert the USB drive. Otherwise it doesn't work for me. Keeping it plugged during booting to test mode doesn't help.

Thanks anways, IDT.

@cacab

Here is testmode to boot from USB, if you missed it in the wifi thread. Also, you must have the device plugged in to power (side connector is ok, no need for cradle) in order for this to work.

Testmode_2.3_USB.rar

i'm assuming you have the 3.0 update, you have to use the 2.3version of testmode files to get into testmode,

You are asking the same thing, or maybe I misunderstood. "Unzip the testmode into your flash drive" WILL "put the unzipped folder there"...

Just unzip the archive on your pc. It will create a testmode folder with files inside. Copy this testmode folder to the root of your drive. Its exactly the same structure like on SD, but on the USB drive instead.

Make sure you do NOT have the SD card with testmode there at the same time as the USB drive, make sure you are starting up a cold boot ie it takes 6 seconds on the power button to start and make sure you are powered with the external power supply. USB testmode will not work when running on battery.
