I want to get rid of that awful background that the clock has on navi screen, so I know that the line responsible for it is found in navigatemap_800_480.ui

<---If I remove this line from it, would it make the clock appear without it?

Yes that should work. What I would suggest is put a ; before the line and if it does not work you can take it back out. Putting a ";" before the line makes the line text instead of a command.

Nice one just wanted to make sure before I go messing with ui files.

Well you are not alone I have just started to edit the ui files (spent all weekend working on them) and it is not easy.
