Hello, I want to install an avic z1 in my 2001 chevy silverado. Has anyone on here done this and how much did you have to modify the dash to get it to fit? I know they are not meant to fit but I think I can get it to fit in the space with a little modification. Thanks for any info.

It is possible, as long as you have an installer with some fabrication skills. The factory head unit is 1.5 din, the Z1 is double-din. There is room in the dash with some cutting, but the hard part is the dash fascia trim fabrication.

I put a D1 in my '99. The easiest way is to use a 03-06 bezel and radio bracket. Here is a big long thread about several ways to do it (03-06 bezel being the most popular):

I was also going to suggest looking for a newer dash trim bezel, and Gnatgosplat shows up with the goods. Boom goes the dynamite.
