What causes the sound to turn off on my Avic-D2? The only sound that I will hear will be from my aftermarket subwoofer after the normal speakers shut off. I have to turn the car off and back on to resume normal operation.

 

I have noticed that this only happens when I turn on my HID foglights, The foglights are not on the same circuitry as the stereo system. I have the foglights wired directly to the battery with proper relays connected to the factory fog light harness.

 

On the same note. I also have my zune connected to the a/v cables behind the D2. When I turn on the foglights, it also causes my zune to shut off and restart.

A friend of mine needed to install a small (tiny) capacitor to keep this from happening in his 2006 Impala with HID headlights (and AVIC-D3). Where he had to tap in, exactly, I cannot remember. The quick surge of electricity needed to fire up the HID ballast was pulling too much power from the HU, causing it to shut down. As you mentioned, it's not even the same circuit, so we weren't sure why this was happening.

 

I have a 2006 SS as well, but it has never done this for me.
