I went over my boy's house and tried installing the avic d-2 on a 2003 Audi A4....three things didn't go as planned:

1) we were scared to connect the speed sensor wire, since we heard doing it wrong can really mess everything up

2) doe to 55 lbs of wire harness. the actual nav player doesnt go in more than half way...i have an ipod tuner, a sirius tuner and sooo many wires, it really looks the nav is stolen since it's only in about halfway...it works, the maps work, but the system must go in fully in the dash

3) rear speakers don't work...just the front door panel ones work properly

 other than that, everything is fine!!

im going tonight to a professional to fix our 3 errors....i asked some dude at a small store here in LA, he said 150 bucks... these guys are all gonna try to kill me on the price....im sure i'll find one decent place

by the way, thanks to cntrylvr79 for all the help throughout the installation process...he helped me a great deal on certain wiring questions

I have a Z1 in my 04 A4. Awesome. Mine had the Audi Symphony II so it was single-DIN. I had to have my temp controlls sanded and slid down, then a bit of custom brackets made and a bezel built. Ugh! I'll show pics though, looks killer, works great.

Where in So Cal are you located? I was quoted $150 to install the D1 and the SWI-PS in Long Beach and then quoted $150+$60 for the PAC in San Gabriel. So i guess $150 is about average.
