Has anyone found one sharkfin antenna that will serve both GPS (navigation) and XM, all in one antenna unit? I'd like to install an Avic-f700bt and would like to find an all in one antenna solution. They seem to be hard to find...thanks

it much easier to mount the GPS antenna under the dash (it works great through plastic just not metal) then put the smaller sat antenna on the roof, no need to buy a extra antenna, and just one small sat that you can see. its a win win

Thank you, I did not know that you could mount the GPS Antenna under the front dash and still have it work properly. I've seen an individual mount the GPS antenna on top of the dash in the very front / middle, then wrap the cable around the front edge and under the dash, but I think I like the idea of not seeing it if possible. I've also read that with the Saab small shark fin (onstar) antenna, you can pull out the electronic guts and replace them with the electronics from an XM antenna and feed the cable back through, eliminating the need for another roof wart.

I've seen BMW's and Audi's with the all in one shark fin antennas, but I think they are still too new to buy as a consumer aftermarket item.

i cant stand the look of crap on the out side of the car, GPS antennas can receive signal through some plastic, if you are going to mount it under the dash, i strongly reccoment putting a small sheet of metal under it (the little square it come with is great), i have also put the antenna directly on the of the unit a few times (as long as there is not too many layers above it and NO metal) the sat antenna is a different story, since there are a lot fewer sats in the sky, it more sensitive to placement. some people have mounted them on the dash and i have come accross a couple that have had theres under the dash, but they usually have some reception problems, i started with mine on the dash and it worked pretty good while i was in my home area, but when i left for a longer trip, i kept getting into areas where it wouldnt work at all, and had to move it outside. as i didnt want to mount it on the roof of the car , I made a small bracket that bolted to one of the hood hinges and holds the antenna just behind the edge of the hood and over the top of the wiper. the reception is near perfect and you can not see the antenna unless you walk up next to the car.

Great idea with the bracket near the hood, do you happen to have a photo of the placement? Was it difficult to feed the antenna cable through the firewall? Thanks
