Installing microphone

Instead of clipping the micro phone to the sun visor, I was thinking of surface mounting it in the A pillar or somewhere.

Has anyone done this yet? If so, any ideas on how to secure it and/or ideas on a mini "speaker" grill or covering? My interior is tan

Thanks IDT, but I don't have anything like that. Anyone else, any suggestions on a "clip" or something I can use to secure the mirco phone into a hole in the pillar?

I did this - had it on the A pillar. Looked better. But I had multiple complaints from callers saying the echo was bad when I talked, and the voice-recognition portions didn't work very well. I presume that is because it was stuck in the corner. Once I moved it to my visor, no more issues.

Thanks, glad I didn't do it. Just couldn't cut a hole in my interior. I acutally took it and ran it to my rear view mirror. I have a Gentex with a wire moulding. Ran it down the moulding and let it hang there, where it is actually concealed. Haven't tried talking yet though.

Don't know what year you have but mine is an '07... routed the wire through dash, up the inside of the left A pillar, across the inside of the headliner and clipped it to the headliner above the rearview mirror. Calls are crystal clear and most people can't even tell they're on speakerphone.

i flush mounted mine in the a pillar and got the same complaints about echo. i wouldn't recommend it. the echo cancellation on the pioneer mic requires the sides to be exposed. i'm going to try and replace it with a clarion mic that doesn't need this. we'll see...

I mounted mine flush on the console by the center vents (lots of room on the Excursion). I used a large rubber grommet, and it holds it very securely. Would probably work better if it was closer to me, but this way the front seat passenger can be heard clearly!
