On my way home today, I was fiddling with the Z and found that holding down the "Home" button for more than 2 seconds makes the screen turn off. Holding down the "Mode" button for more than 2 seconds brings up brightness, contrast, color temp, and dimmer controls. Hope this helps!

Too bad there is not a shortcut to get to the map mode settings... There is one on the X910!??
