AVIC-F7010BT iPod and USB flash drive issues

Hey all,

I have the AVIC-F7010BT unit with 2.006 firmware. This was just upgraded today from 2.000. I have a 5th generation iPod classic that will initialize perfectly sometimes. Once in a while, when I turn the car on, it won't be recognized. Now, I searched this forum before I posted this, and I realize that other people have experienced the same problem. But I did not see another (related!) problem that I also experience: the same symptom happens with USB thumb drives, too. I will, for example, drive to work in the morning while listening to music from the flash drive (or iPod, of course). When I get out of my car, I leave the device connected, but when I return to my car to drive home, sometimes the device won't seem to be connected. As others must do, I have to disconnect and reconnect the iPod or USB drive to get it to be recognized.

Have any of you experienced the last several seconds of a song (somewhere between one and ten seconds and sometimes even more!) getting cut off? My head unit will skip the end of a song on occasion and go to the next song. Like the intermittent connection at startup problem, this doesn't happen every time, either. Also, this happens either with the iPod or with my USB thumb drive.

What's up with the shoddy USB operability?!

Upgrade to 3.0. Trust me, its totally worth the $60 to buy it from Crutchfield. There are also alternative methods of updating, but you can look through the hacks forum for that.

Is it just me, or do other people think that paying $60 to fix a bug that shouldn't even be there anyway is a complete and total rip off?

I couldn't agree more with you, but I also have $600 invested in this unit and I would rather spend 1/10th the price I paid on an upgrade that really does make the unit so much more bearable than spend twice the amount of money on an already perfect Kenwood unit that is totally out of my budget.
