Can anyone tell me what the .DEM files or used for. I think they have something to do with better map resolution, maybe. Anyways, do I need to keep the 118 mb US dem file if I want to use the NorthAmerica_low_2008_03_25.dem file that is 181mb since it covers the same region or not. I 'm starting to run out of space and have files in the DEM folder that aren't needed.

These are terrain elevation files. Not really needed, and unless you live in a mountain area you won't see much difference with or without them (or with a smaller one).
