I just ordered the Z110BT it will replace the F90BT I installed yesterday. Does anyone know if the harness is the same so I dont have to redo it? Also to do the bypass which wire in the hardness is ground so I can just crimp the green and mute wire to it?

Also my dad has an escalade EXT and he just installed the 910BT they put a module so he can use his steering wheel controls to control the volume etc.

I have a Cadillac CTS do you know if I will be able to do the same with the Z110BT? My steering wheel controls have been useless since I installed the F90BT.

Thanks Guys

not sure if this'll help but i had the F900 and upgraded to the F10, both UK versions, and the harnesses were the same :)

Well there are 3 things I am trying to find out if they are the same which will make my install easier

1.microphone (does the z110bt have a better mic?)

2. Power harness (finders crossed)

3. RCA harness (fingers crossed)

if all 3 are the same install should take 5 minutes. My f90bt has the bypass mod and it seems the same...

I confirmed the Power Cord Assy is the same (CDP1095)

everything else is different. It was a hassle running the GPS antenna. Atleast I wont have to do the bypass mod and the speed signal cable will already be connected since its in the power cord.

I will have to replace the RCA cord, Microphone and GPS Antenna

The instructions for the Z bypass are at the top of this forum. People have stated that the harnesses for the units are the same but I can not for sure. The microphone is probably the same as what you have, it does look different but that doesn't mean anything. I have had no problems with the mic. The RCA harness on the Z has connections the F series doesn't have so it is different. It has an AV2 connection and the ipod cable for the Z has its own AV connection.

I talked to partspioneerelectronics, GPS Antenna and Mic are different part numbers. Power is the same. Thanks

I did the same model swap you are doing and only switched the RCA harness. You can waste your time running a new mic and GPS antenna if you want (or you can try it my way and test it out before putting the dash back together and see that it works perfectly)

Santa brought me the 110BT so I'll be doing this upgrade shortly. A couple of contradictory things I've read about the power cable - on one hand the claim is that they are compatible (good), however the bypass moves the mute wire to different places on the connector. Are both target pins on the connector free, and it just a matter of using the correct pin for the specific nav unit?

Thanks

The mute wire is on the RCA harness, not the power harness. You have to move it over one spot, ground it, and ground the parking brake wire if you hadn't done so with your previous deck

Thanks - that makes more sense :-)

Upgrade went well and new unit is awesome (I took the opportunity to replace the previous crappy dash kit with the sleeker Scosche one). The biggest difference is the much higher volume at lower settings. I also like the sound staging feature in the sound settings menu.

I was however suprised that on the F90BT install the illumination wire was not connected, and yet at night the map screen would switch into night mode. This is not the case on the Z110BT, as the screen stays in day mode all the time and so I'll need to go in and tap into a line that has 12v when the lights are on (made more challenging given the factory illumination signall is digital and interior lights are always on...)

Cheers

The F series switched to night mode based on the time of day on the clock. The Z does require that the illumination wire be connected for this.

Another mystery solved - thanks! I think I prefer the TOD solution...

I just had my z110bt installed, and the installer left the illumination wire dangling. I went back two days later and had him hook it up because the screen is so bright at night.

I have a 2005 avalanche (onstar and bose, I have the adapter to keep both), when he hooked up the illumination wire he hooked it up to the illumination wire coming out of the harness. however lights on or off screen stays the same, also when I go the connections screen with the lights on or off the illumination always says off.

Suggestions?

An update on my upgrade: I was having a strange issue with voice recognition, which I addressed by removing the microphone left over from the F90BT install and replacing it with the one that came with the Z110BT.

For some reason I could almost never get the CALL command to be recognized, yet all other commands seemed fine (even complex ones like finding an address). I no longer get these while using the proper microphone. I also took this opporunity to mount the microphone in the factory location, behind a screen/grate in the small overhead console in my 2005 Audi A4. Nice clean look compared to the old microphone "professionally" installed hanging down from the front edge of the headliner.

I similarly swapped the antenna due to poor reception, which may have been due to the crappy install of the previous one rather than an issue with the antenna itself (the previous installers committed a long list of sins that I won't go into, but to give you an idea - they broke my windshield when doing the microphone install). Along with locating and connecting the VSS wire I now have a smoother and more accurate map.

I gave up on the illumination wire though. It turns out I couldn't find a single thing on the car that is powered up only when the headlights are on (other than the headlights themselves) and didn't feel it was worth messing with any further. Adjusting the dimmer and color temperature gives me a screen I'm happy with day and night.
