I have an F700BT and I am trying to upgrade to 3.0 but I'm having issues. I already asked for assistance in the official 3.0 upgrade thread but haven't heard anything back so I'm gonna try this on my own. I think my upgrade problems are coming from the fact that I already have "modded" the firmware in the radio with the software speed bypass and other things. I'm trying to "re-image" my unit back to stock and try the upgrade again, but I can't remember what I need to do. I know I need the original 2.0 firmware and then boot to test mode and copy it over or something along those lines from what I can remember, but I don't want to brick my unit and I can't seem to find the original 2.0 firmware anywhere. If anyone can help me remember the process for restoring my unit, I would greatly appreciate it.

I had a problem updating to the official 3.0 firmware because of all the mods that I had installed. The official firmware update does not erase your disk, it just overwrites the files, so if you had mods outside of the standard files, it will freeze your unit or keep it at the system startup screen, I just then used the hacked 3.0 version which worked like a charm because it ERASES YOUR ENTIRE FLASH DRIVE! I phoned Pioneer and told them what \i had done because I purchased the upgrade and then had to use the hacked version to get it to work, they said no problem as the hacked version is the same as the official just that as long as you have your device ID registered and have a password, that is all that you need. My suggestion is to find a hacked version and install it.

I have the hacked version. When I put the as card in the radio and hit the upgrade option it just tells me update fail immediately. I don't understand what's going on with it.

You didn't read the directions. Go back, read again.

I have read re-read and then read again and I don't see what directions I did not follow. Help?

Ok... so I didn't read the directions wrong. I did everything the way the directions stated. Two things the directions did not state were (possibly) 1. we should revert back to our original firmware first or 2. extract all files on a pc instead of a mac. I went through the entire process again using my pc instead of my mac and I also went back to my original firmware before I started the process this time and it seems to be working. I am sitting in my car right now and the new firmware is about half way done being copied. So I don't know if it was the mac causing the problem or the fact that I was overwriting modded firmware, but either way, it appears to be working now.

I overwrote modded firmware on 2 units without a problem. I don't have a Mac.
