F910BT Reversing Camera Question

Hi, my first post having just bought and had installed a F910BT.

I had my unit installed by professional installers, I have used them many times and they are very good but I have a couple of questions.

The reverse camera activates when the car is in reverse, however when driving normally if I press the rear view option from the screen I don't get a view through the camera just a black screen with the warning that images may be reversed. They told me before I knew about the rear view option on the unit that I couldnt have both options but the book and logic suggests i can. Have they wired it wrong? What could they have done to put this limitation in?

Also when I picked it up from being fitted the reversing camera seemed great in the daylight, however in the dark it's 'pants' very grainy, even with the reversing lights on I would have difficulty counting on what i saw. It doesn't have any infra red emitters on so I am assuming that its a poor camera that struggles in low light. Can anybody recommend a solution? Is the matched pioneer reversing camera the best to get?

btw. It is a nice unit but i'm not 100% happy, long boot up times and it's a waste of time trying to play Divx movies from the SD or USB as the strain on the processor slows everything down, switching from watching a movie to the nav can take an age.

thanks

The camera is not wired correctly and they are full of crap when they tell you that you cant have both. Basically, they wired the power wire of the camera to the reverse wire from the car. The camera power wire should be wired to the 12V+ switched wire. The same wire that the head unit is wired to. The purple reverse wire from the head unit should be wired to the reverse wire from the car. Also, if your getting a poor or grainy image at night you probably have a CMOS camera instead of a CCD camera. That is indicative of CMOS cameras. CMOS cameras are like having a VHS VCR in a digital DVD age. They are cheap crap.

yeah i agree with that assessment. Whoever told you that you couldn't have both doesn't know what they're doing with regards to installs. True, what they did was probably the easiest option since they don't have to route 12v switched power all the way to the camera and just tap off the reverse light, but thats just lazy to say can't have it both ways.

Basically, if they wire up the power to the camera to the 12v switched power(make sure not to the 12v permanent power, as this will drain the battery), then the camera is on whenever the car is on, so the HU can then always switch to that input whenever you want it to and the camera will be powered.

The way they've wired it up now, the camera is only powered when the reverse lights are on(as its tapping off that), so then even though you've switched the screen input to the camera, the camera isn't actually powered so it won't show an image.
