Several years ago I used the great information on this site to bypass my Z1 which worked absolutely brilliant for a couple of years until recently. Now, very intermittently I am not able to use several “buttons” on the menu screen such as address search, POI, etc. If I bring up the menu screen, I actually see those buttons go from grayed out to “live” and back and forth while I’m sitting there looking at it.

 

If I put it in park and put the e-brake on its makes NO difference or impact whatsoever. Remember, I apparently did the bypass correctly the first time because it has worked great for quite a while.

 

My first thought is that a wire has come loose or something that is causing the intermittent issue but I haven’t pulled the unit to see.

 

I have not done ANY other upgrade or touched the unit (firmware, Navmaps, nothing) so it is a true “out of the blue” kind of problem.

 

I’m wondering if anyone has experienced something similar or perhaps someone knows of a resolution short of turning it over for service (which would be a bummer).

 

On a related side note, if in fact, I am going to have to send it in I may actually consider getting a new unit and upgrade (and move the Z1 to the other car). Any recommendations on what to get (or stay away from) are welcomed. Obviously, the ideal scenario would be a unit that drops directly into the can of the Z1 but I know that’s probably a pipe dream.
