One thing I've grown to love (after thinking I would never use it) is the pause/buffer feature on my SkyFi2. With the HD based Z1, is this a feature of the XM radio installs?

Nope

The skyfi has a buffer memory in it.

The SkyFi2 uses non volatile flash memory to have the buffer available, not a harddrive. I don't believe any in dash head unit has an XM (or Sirius) buffer available.

Believe it or not, my Pioneer Inno XM Radio Walkman, which is a fairly new model, doesnt even have a buffer! My only option on the unit is to record the entire song/show, and replay when its finished recording.

BTW, did you see the SkyFi3 is now being sold? Looks like a REAL NICE unit!

Yeah it looks great. In my Z, I'm thinking of having that installed in the top cubby with the Z1 in the double/stock radio slot in the dash. I know it seems a little ridiculous to take an "all in one" unit and not use the features though.

doesnt seem rediculous at all! When I first got my N3, I used the Pioneer Inno in a car cradle for my Xm as well, but then I decided I wanted the NavTraffic and such, so I splurged LOL
