Ok, so i am a bad kid and conned my aunt into telling me what i got for christmas, who hasnt done this. So i searched and found a forum about a guy that had remote start on his avalanche, and it didnt turn his radio on, so my question is, if anyone has this remote start on their vehicle, does it allow the raio to come on?

Merry Christmas,

-Jacob

I have the 5901 and it does on my vehicle but that may be vehicle specific. You may be able to have it wired to do so if your vehicle doesn't allow it. Inquire with your installer when you get it.

I have the 5902 and when I remote start my car the radio turns on.

When it comes to after market remote start units it depends on the vehicle & the accessory wires for that particular vehicle, but it can be done on all no matter what vehicle make it is, just may require additional components.

alright, well i have a 2006 Toyota Tundra X-SP if that helps any. Guess i will just have to wait until christmas to find out lol. I am guessing we are taking it somewhere to get installed, knowing my adventurous dad, he will probably try to do it himself lol

I also have a 5901.. love it.. anyways im an automotive electronics installer. I just checked out the wires for an 06 tundra it has 2 ignition wires and 1 accessory wire. as long as all 3 of those are powered with the remote start your radio will come on. Some cars have multiple ignition wires and multiple accessory wires. Whoever did the install on the avalanche must not have hit all of them (they are not all required to start the car).. dunno why but they should have.

Alright, what was your fav feature of the alarm, and also least favorite

id have to say the new viper remote is my favorite part and my least favorite at the same time =P I love the look and feel of the new style remotes.. much more elegant looking than the old ones.. i like the 2way feature.. my civic has the older 2 way with the screen which is bulky and kills batteries rather quick. While they do have a newer style remote with the screen on it i like the 5900's led 2way system.. i just replaced the batteries in the remote 2day after 7+months... i replace the battery like every 3 in the old one. The only reason I would say that I dont like the new remotes is there is a little bit of a delay.. if you press and release the buttons too fast is will blink and beep but wont make it to the car.. just get use to holding the button for like half a second and its all good! overall i love it.. the delay is not REALLY a dislike.. but i had to think of something =P You will like it.. get someone who knows what they are doing to install it and you should have no problems out of it. Remote starts on newer vehicles are not exactly a DIY project unless you have some experience working with the electrical systems in newer cars.. i do have to say though that toyota will be one of the easier ones should you try to tackle it yourself. enjoy! Merry Christmas from NC!

The fact the the remote is rechargeable with the 5901. Awesome, no more buying batteries. It will usually last about 45 days before it needs to be recharged.

its all in how its wired, if you power all of the acc and ign circuits (as mentioned above) the radio will come on, however if you dont want your radio to come on, you can always use a relay to keep the radio from coming on with the ground while armed wire from the R/S system or by just not powering up that circuit (this is not a option on all cars as some need all acc circuits powered)

Thanks 1loudls. I am taking it to be installed by the guys from best buy in ATL. So, i will make sure to tell him to wire up the defrosters and to power all the acc and ign circuits. Thanks a lot!!

You usually have to pay extra for rear defost to activate with remote start.

If its all the same, I would recommend NOT having anyone at Best Buy install an alarm. You are much better off going to an independent install shop that has been doing that kind of work for years.

uh oh Vblue. You have me worried now. Installation came free and i dont know if my dad would be willing to take it somewhere else, so sounds like i may be screwed :/

Superjet, Do you have any idea how much that would cost?

the best part of having a best buy do the install is that the install and the system(excluding the remotes) is warrantied for life at over 1000 shops nation wide, no small independent shop can say that.also smaller independent shops might not be in business a few of years after they install it then your screwed paying somebody else to do warranty work that should be covered.

i'm not going to lie, it is true there are a few bad best buys out there, its hard to have over 1000 shops with an average of five or more employees each and not have a few bad apples, however there are also just as many if not more bad independent shops T-taping the hell out of your car, you should always talk to the person that is going to be working on the car and asking as many questions as possible to make sure that the person is competent and that you are comfortable with them as an installer

1loudls, well you were correct, the trouble has already began. I call today to make an appointment and i find out i have to wait two weeks before i can get it installed. So ok i have to wait until the 10th, no big deal. Well he asks what vehicle i have and i tell him and he says oh well you need this bypass module that is $100. My parents asked the salesman in the store if they would need anything else for my truck and they said no. So now its costing me $100 extra. I wish they would have told us that sooner, i would have taken the money and gotten new headers for my truck. ahhhh oh well, we live and we learn.

whoops double post

Thats the BIGGEST problem car stuff at best buy.. 9 times out of 10 the guy sellin the equipment has NO clue about how the stuff really works (ur lucky if they know how to change a fuse) and when you ask stuff like "is this all i need?" they have no idea so they say yes.. most newer cars require a bypass module to fool the cars security into thinking the key is in the ignition so it can be started... a remote start essentially "hot wires" a car.. but with the anti theft stuff in cars these days its not as easy as crossing a few wires. I can say that you can buy the bypass modules off the internet for WAY cheaper than best buy is going to sell you. The "Expresskit PKALL" which is more than likely what best buy was going to sell you is $50 on ebay (just search pkall).. its basically a universal piece that can be programmed via usb for specific vehicles.

*installation is not "free" at bestbuy.. there is about $150 tacked onto the price of the alarm when you buy it there.. thats your install fee.. they WILL NOT sell you an alarm without install (even if ur gonna do it yourself).. thats why the alarms sold on the internet are WAY cheaper..

Posted Dec 27, 2009 · 22:16 UTC#20

Seriously, if I were you, I would take it back and go somewhere else. Tell them you are not happy with them because they did not complete the sale with you by not getting you everything you needed at the point of sale. Go to a shop that specializes in this type of stuff.

to be an authorized DEI retailer, the system come with basic install included (which is different from free install) and since they don't warranty anything that was not sold &installed by a authorized dealer, they dont want it to be sold by itself, and you are incorrect we do sell R/S's and alarms with out install all the time, you just dont get the package price (since you are not buying all the items that make up the package)

alarms are sold online cheaper because they are being sold by a non authorized dealer and then they have no warranty.

its a package deal and when it is being sold they take the install price off of the system and charge it to labor (which then saves you money since its not being taxed) so that they can have installers to do the job, no labor, no installers.
