Simple Question - Day/Night Display

Simple Question:

You go to MENU, MAP, DAY/NIGHT DISPLAY....

What options do you have when you tap the screen:

Automatic, Day AND Nighttime?

OR JUST

Automatic and Day?

I could have sworn when I first installed my Z1, I had 3 options (see above). But now, I only have just 2 options (again...see above).

I also noticed in the Z1 owner's manual that on page 200, it shows "Nighttime" in the example screen. But, when you go to page 49, it only lists "Automatic" and "Day".

What gives? Is this a misprint in the manual?

Did I just imagine that my Z1 had the "nighttime" option?

What options does your unit have?

Thanks in advance.

Only Auto/Day. I never noticed the "night time" on page 200. Good catch. Mine does not have a "night time" option.

Yeah just automatic/day

When you're "illumination" wire is active and the display dims, if its set to automatic the colors will reverse for night mode. If you hit "Day" it uses day colors but a much more dimmed down version. Kinda cool I guess.

I wish I had that Day/Night/Automatic though.

Whew!!!

Thanks for the responses guys!!!! I thought I was going crazy.

Now, here is the latest problem/challenge I am encountering:

I have the Day/Night setting set to AUTOMATIC, but when I turn my car on in the morning, it starts out in NIGHT mode...which is fine because I am in the garage and it's relatively dark AND that was the last setting it was on from the previous night I drove my car....so no big deal.

But, then I get out of my garage and drive for a couple of miles in the sunlight, the navi display shows the black/night background and will not come out of that and change to day mode NO MATTER WHAT.

I did experiment a little bit and put my hand over the buttons/lower corner of the Z1, and bam...immediately it switched to DAY mode. Doesn't that seem backwards? I was covering up the natural light, so wouldn't you think it would want to stay on the night mode because I faked it out in into thinking it was nighttime or at least darker than it was? Does that make any sense?

On another note: Ducati (or any other expert)....how important is it to hook up the Speed Pulse wire? The installer doesn't want to mess with it because he is afraid he will void the car warranty if he starts messing with the wrong modules/wires while trying to find the VSS. wire.

How much will it really affect location of my vehicle?

rjmoose,

Well you might be going crazy. The day/night mode in automatic is all based on the car it's installed in. There is no light sensor in the front panel. There is on a D series (and maybe N as well). But you could cover or illuminate the Z1 all you want and it won't effect the screen brightness or the map day/night mode. So I'm guessing its just a coincidence that you happened to cover that part and it went into day mode.

As for your speed sense wire, it's not real important. It will give the Z1 a little more accurate speed when the sat signal is less than perfect. I drove around with it not hooked up for a couple months. I did hook it up and would recommend that you do, they put it there, might as well use it. But it doesn't really hurt anything with it gone. It might not give you access to a couple items in the vehicle dynamics screen, but overall nav function is normal. But if you go into a tunnel or under lots of things which might cause the nav gps signal to drop out, this will help maintain the accuracy of your position.

Someone here should be able to tell you where to connect to if you gave your year, make, model, # of doors, color, favorite song, etc... I wouldn't worry too much about your warranty, if they are going to be mad about tapping off the VSS wire, they might have an issue since you yanked out the stock radio and put in the Z1 anyway.

Thanks Ducati.....I just figured since the D2 has a light sensor in the bottom right of the screen, the Z1 most likely does too. But man that seems awfully coincidental. I mean, I am driving down the road for a good 2 or 3 miles and then the screen decides to change from night to day the exact second I cover the screen up with my hand? Wow...go figure!!!!!!!!

Anyway, thanks for all your great answers....I really appreciate it!!!
