A couple of questions for a future purchaser of the D2...

I have a 01 Lexus IS300 and wanted to upgrade to a double din navi/dvd head unit. I already have an Alpine CD player to swapping shouldn't be a problem. I was wondering if anyone with the same car has this installed. Any tips or things I should know before I start? This will be my first head unit install.

I looked around at a couple of D2 topics and thought that I read it WILL NOT play regular DVDs? Is that true? I hope I just read it wrong. Will it play burned DVDs though? I saw that there is a bypass to enable all functions while driving, so that's straight. But will there be display screens or menus show all the time when watching movies or playing CDs?

Anything else I should know? Lexus will now be my daily driver so I need a navi relatively easy to use and able to play DVD movies. Thanks for any help!

You read correctly. It WILL NOT play movie DVDs.

You can hook up an external DVD player, but it will not be able to be controlled through the D2 unless you buy Pioneer 6 disc DVD changer.

If you don't want an external device and need it to play DVD movies, get the Z1.

Yeah I know about the Z1. Just didn't want to spend that much for a head unit. Maybe I'll have to look into another brand. Thanks

or wait for the D3, it plays DVD's and is half the price of the Z1.
